How it works

From phone call to pharmacy collection

A simple process designed to get your prescription to a pharmacy that’s convenient for you, wherever you are.

1
Step 1

Book your telephone consultation

Book online or contact us by phone or WhatsApp. The £60 fee covers the GP’s time.

2
Step 2

Our GP calls you at your appointment time

Your GP discusses your request, your medical history, and whether a private prescription is appropriate. New patients must have this consultation before any prescription can be issued — we cannot prescribe to a new patient without it.

3
Step 3

If appropriate, a prescription is issued

Your GP issues an electronic private prescription. There is no additional charge for this beyond the £60 consultation fee.

4
Step 4

A link to your prescription is sent to you

You’ll receive a link to your electronic prescription by text or email. You take this to any community pharmacy that suits you.

If your pharmacist asks for the link directly from us: some pharmacies prefer to receive the prescription link straight from our GP rather than from you. If this happens, just let us know the name of the pharmacy and their email address, and we’ll send it across to them directly.
5
Step 5

Collect and pay the pharmacy directly

You pay the pharmacy for the medication itself when you collect it. Private prescriptions are not covered by the NHS, and the pharmacy may also apply its own dispensing fee on top of the medication cost.

6
Step 6

Our GP posts the original prescription to the pharmacy

The signed prescription is posted to your chosen pharmacy afterwards, as required for private prescriptions.

Common questions

Before you book

Is there an extra charge if a prescription is issued?

No — there is no extra charge for a prescription issued during a GP consultation at OurGP. The £60 fee covers the consultation itself.

Can I use any pharmacy?

Yes. You can take a private prescription to any community pharmacy. The pharmacist may apply their own dispensing fee in addition to the cost of the medication, which you pay directly to them.

Will the NHS cover the cost of my medication?

No. A private prescription is not an NHS prescription, so the medication cost is not covered by the NHS — you’ll pay the pharmacy directly for the medication and any dispensing fee they apply.

What medications can’t you prescribe?

We do not prescribe controlled drugs, including benzodiazepines. This covers Schedule 2 drugs (e.g. morphine, oxycodone, methadone, fentanyl, methylphenidate), Schedule 3 drugs (e.g. buprenorphine, tramadol, temazepam, midazolam, pregabalin, gabapentin) and Schedule 4 drugs (e.g. diazepam, lorazepam, zolpidem, zopiclone, and anabolic steroids).

I’m a new patient — can I get a prescription on my first contact?

For safety reasons, we cannot issue any prescription to a new patient without a GP consultation first. This is why the telephone consultation is a required first step, even if you know exactly what you need.

My pharmacist is asking for something from you directly — what do I do?

Some pharmacies prefer the prescription link to be emailed to them directly by our GP, rather than forwarded by you. If this happens, just let us know the name of the pharmacy and their email address, and we’ll send it across.
