A private prescription at OUR GP starts with a brief telephone consultation with our GP. We take a short clinical history, establish that the medication is appropriate, and if so, issue an electronic private prescription. This is sent directly to a pharmacy of your choice anywhere in the UK — you simply collect and pay for the medication there. The whole process typically takes under 30 minutes from booking to prescription issued. 1 Book online or call us Book a telephone consultation online anytime, or call us during clinic hours. Let us know which medication you need and we’ll arrange a slot quickly — often the same day. 2 Telephone consultation with our GP A brief call with our GMC-registered GP. We’ll take a short history, confirm the medication is clinically appropriate for you, and discuss any safety considerations. This usually takes 5–10 minutes. 3 Prescription issued electronically If appropriate, we issue a private prescription electronically. You tell us which pharmacy you’d like to use — anywhere in the UK — and we send it directly there. No paper, no posting. 4 Collect from your pharmacy Head to your chosen pharmacy to collect and pay for the medication. Private prescriptions are dispensed at private rates — the cost is separate from and paid directly to the pharmacy. “The consultation fee is £60. This covers the GP’s time and the prescription itself — there is no extra charge for issuing the prescription if one is appropriate.” £60 consultation + prescription Telephone consultation fee covers the GP’s time and the prescription if issued. Private prescriptions cover the same range of medications as NHS prescriptions — with the key exception of controlled drugs and benzodiazepines. If a medication is clinically appropriate for your situation, our GP can prescribe it privately. Below are the most common categories we prescribe, though this list is not exhaustive — if you’re unsure whether we can help with your specific medication, just ask. Antibiotics & antifungals Penicillins, macrolides, nitrofurantoin, fluconazole and others for infections including chest, UTI, skin, throat and more. Travel & antimalarial medication Doxycycline, atovaquone/proguanil, altitude sickness (acetazolamide), traveller’s diarrhoea, and other travel treatments. Skin & allergy medications Topical steroids, antihistamines, acne treatments, eczema medications, and allergy management including nasal sprays. Repeat & maintenance medications Ongoing medications for hypertension, diabetes, thyroid, cholesterol, and other chronic conditions where you need a short-term supply. Hormone therapies HRT, thyroid medication, oral contraceptives, and other hormone treatments following appropriate clinical review. Respiratory medications Inhalers, short courses of oral steroids, decongestants, and other treatments for respiratory conditions where clinically indicated. “Not sure if we can prescribe what you need? Call or WhatsApp us first — we’ll be honest with you about whether a telephone consultation is appropriate for your situation.” £60 telephone consultation One fee covers the consultation and the prescription. This policy applies regardless of your previous prescriptions, your diagnosis, what has been prescribed elsewhere, or how long you have been taking the medication. We understand this may be frustrating if you have a legitimate need, and we will always explain why and suggest appropriate alternative routes for care. Schedule 2 — not available High-risk controlled drugs Morphine, oxycodone, methadone, fentanyl, pethidine, methylphenidate (Ritalin), dexamfetamine, and all other Schedule 2 drugs. These carry the highest controls under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Schedule 3 — not available Lower-tier controlled drugs Temazepam, buprenorphine, tramadol, and other Schedule 3 controlled drugs. Although lower risk than Schedule 2, these still require controls that cannot be met via private telephone prescribing. Benzodiazepines — not available Benzodiazepines & Z-drugs Diazepam, lorazepam, clonazepam, zopiclone, zolpidem, and similar anxiolytics and hypnotics. These are not available via private telephone consultation due to addiction and dependency risks. Requires face-to-face Certain specialist medications Some medications require examination, monitoring, or shared-care arrangements that cannot be safely managed by telephone. We will advise you on a case-by-case basis if this applies. If you currently rely on controlled medication If you are prescribed controlled drugs by your NHS GP or a specialist and need an urgent supply, please contact your NHS prescriber, your pharmacy (who may be able to arrange an emergency supply), or NHS 24 on 111. We cannot bridge-prescribe controlled medication privately. Not sure? ask us first If you’re unsure whether your medication falls under these restrictions, contact us before booking. We’ll be honest and save you the consultation fee if we can’t help. Whether you’re a UK resident away from home, an international visitor, or a pilgrim on route to or from Saudi Arabia, accessing your regular medication abroad can be stressful. Private GP prescriptions remove the need to find an NHS GP, register as a temporary patient, or spend hours in a walk-in centre — a short telephone call with our GP is all that’s needed, and your prescription goes straight to a local pharmacy. We can help bridge the gap quickly and safely. NHS repeat prescription systems — while generally reliable — can leave patients without medication due to delays, administrative errors, practice closures, or moving between GP practices. A private prescription from OUR GP can provide a short supply of most non-controlled maintenance medications while you get your NHS supply reinstated, without compromising your ongoing NHS care. We can prescribe a short course of most regular medications including antihypertensives, statins, thyroid medication, inhalers, oral contraceptives, antihistamines, and other maintenance drugs. We will always be clear about what we can and cannot bridge privately, and we will never prescribe more than a clinically appropriate short-term supply in this context. GP practice backlog — repeat request not processed in time Moved to a new area and not yet registered with a local GP Returning from abroad and need medication before NHS appointment Prescription mislaid or lost while travelling Practice closed over bank holiday and running out of regular medication A note on long-term private prescribing We can provide short-term supply of regular medications, but we are not a substitute for NHS long-term prescribing. We would always encourage patients to maintain their NHS GP relationship for ongoing repeat prescriptions where possible. £60 bridge prescription Short-term supply of most maintenance medications via telephone. A private prescription from OUR GP is entirely confidential by default. Private prescriptions issued at OUR GP do not appear on your NHS Summary Care Record unless you specifically ask us to write to your NHS GP. This can matter for people in certain professions, those applying for insurance, individuals with sensitive health concerns, or anyone who simply values privacy in their healthcare. Private prescriptions are straightforward in principle but patients often have questions about cost, how the pharmacy process works, what’s included, and whether their particular medication can be prescribed. If your question isn’t answered below, please get in touch — we’re happy to advise before you book. How much does a private prescription cost in total? The consultation fee is £60. This covers the GP’s time and includes the prescription if one is issued — there is no additional charge for the prescription document itself. The cost of the medication is separate and paid directly to the pharmacy when you collect. Private medication prices vary by drug and pharmacy, but most common medications are affordable — often just a few pounds for a short course. Do I need to come into the clinic? No. The private prescription service is entirely telephone-based. You do not need to visit the clinic. The consultation takes place over the phone and the prescription is sent electronically to your chosen pharmacy. You only need to physically visit the pharmacy to collect your medication. Which pharmacies can you send a prescription to? We can send a private prescription electronically to any community pharmacy in the UK. This includes all major chains (Boots, Lloyds, Well Pharmacy etc.) and independent pharmacies. Simply let us know which pharmacy you would like to use during the consultation and we will send it directly there. Will this appear on my NHS record? No — by default, private prescriptions from OUR GP do not appear on your NHS Summary Care Record. We do not routinely write to your NHS GP. If you would like us to inform your NHS GP, we can do so, but only at your request. What if the GP decides the prescription isn’t appropriate? In rare cases, our GP may decide that the requested medication is not clinically appropriate to prescribe via a telephone consultation. If this happens, we will explain our reasoning clearly, advise on alternatives, and where possible, suggest the most appropriate next steps. The consultation fee still applies as the GP’s time has been used, but we will always be transparent about this possibility before you book. Can I get a prescription for someone else? The consultation must be with the patient themselves, or in the case of a child, with the parent or guardian. Our GP cannot prescribe based on a third-party account of someone else’s symptoms. If the patient is unable to speak on the phone themselves, please contact us in advance to discuss the situation. How quickly will I get the prescription? In most cases the prescription is issued electronically during or immediately after the consultation. Same-day collection from the pharmacy is usually possible. We typically offer same-day or next-day telephone appointments, meaning the entire process from booking to medication collection can often be completed within a few hours. £60 all inclusive Still have a question?
